Schedule and course descriptions:

I. LEED for New Construction v2 to v3
9:00am-12:00pm | Worth 3.0 HSW/3.0 CE Hours
In June 2009, USGBC released the new 3.0 versions of its LEED rating systems, along with several revisions and additions to the registration and certification process. This course will outline the changes of the new 2009 version of the LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations rating system. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify the roles of USGBC and GBCI and compare the differences between versions 2.0 and 3.0 of LEED for New Construction in terms of referenced standards, Exemplary Performance opportunities, and Prerequisites. Participants will be able to specify the new and updated features associated with the LEED 2009 Rating Systems and Processes, such as the new Regional Priority category and the revisions to the Minimum Program Requirements, CIRs, and Credit Weightings.

II. Introduction to Minimum Program Requirements
12:30pm – 2:00pm | Worth 1.5 HSW/1.5 CE Hours (LEED BD+C Specific)
This course provides crucial information on the minimum requirements that every potential LEED project must comply with in order to become certified. Students will be introduced to the discussion of why Minimum Program Requirements are important and why we should focus on project compliance as a first step toward LEED Certification. The seminar will discuss the importance of meeting each Minimum Program Requirement as it refers to the different LEED Rating Systems. The seminar will also cover different project type requirements and how they differ from such topics as occupancy and minimum square footage requirements.

III. Introduction to Sustainable Sites
2:10pm – 3:10pm | Worth 1.0 HSW/1.0 CE Hours
This introductory seminar will provide an overview of sustainable site initiatives as they relate to LEED. The course will discuss the importance of choosing an appropriate site location and development style. The course will also cover ways to identify environmental strategies to reduce development impacts during construction, and strategies to reduce environmental impacts associated with how project teams develop a site. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be able to analyze the effectiveness of choosing an appropriate location for a new project, and be able to apply their understanding of sustainable sites to various real-world examples.

IV. Stormwater: Quantity and Quality Control
3:20pm – 4:20pm | Worth 1.0 HSW/1.0 CE Hours
This introductory seminar will provide an overview of stormwater management, specific to quantity and quality control. Students will be introduced to the topic of stormwater pollution and the impacts it has on the environment, our economy and infrastructure, and our quality of life. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be able to identify technologies and strategies applicable to multiple project types in order to develop stormwater management plans to address quantity reductions and quality improvements.

V. Understanding Green Roofs
4:30pm – 5:30pm | Worth 1.5 HSW/1.0 CE Hours
This course will cover the strategies and technologies associated with green roofs, and the basics of how a living roof works. It will also discuss different types of green roofs and the benefits and concerns with each type, as well as the process of incorporation, including the costs and the team members involved. Upon completion of the seminar, a participant will be able to analyze the effectiveness of green roofs for a building as a whole.
